Vegan overnight after learning about animal agriculture industry

30 Aug 2019

Profile of a new vegan: Emily Charman first learned of horrors of animal farming at 15. She is now passionate about helping other people. Here is her vegan story.

I first went vegetarian in 2004, I was 15, after watching a horrific programme about the animal agriculture industry. In early 2016 I went on a spontaneous detox and yoga retreat in Byron Bay and went vegan overnight. I then developed a new passion for healthy, plant-based cooking and eating.

I also fell in love with creating tasty, whole foods plant-based recipes. My husband, who at the time didn't know what a vegetable was, enjoyed my new style of cooking and told me to write down my recipes so that I could make them again for him, so that's how my vegan blog, Herbivore Chef got started.

Herbivore Chef focuses on using fresh ingredients for easy recipes that are simple to make and are vegan friendly and to show non-vegans that the food we eat is amazing and tasty and doesn't have to harm anything in the process.

Herbivore Chef is a blog dedicated to tasty vegan recipes. You will find plenty of healthy recipes that are quick and easy to make as well as family favourites that are also kid friendly. There is something here for everyone whether you are on a keto diet or are gluten-free. There are lots of healthy breakfast ideas as well as some not so healthy desserts, snacks, soups and meals which you can make in under 10 minutes.

I have tried to make my recipes easy to follow so that they can be used for mid-week meals that don't require much time to make. There are hundreds of recipes on here that you can make in under 30 minutes.

Vegan Australia is an animal rights organisation that campaigns nationally for veganism.
