Vegan election test: how the parties rate

08 May 2019

It's time for political parties to take into account the views of the 400,000 vegan Australians as well as the vast majority of Australians who are against animal cruelty and the many who are reducing their consumption of meat, dairy and eggs. Whether vegan or not, people care about animals, climate change and the health of fellow Australians.

In the lead up to the 2019 Federal Election, Vegan Australia, in association with Vegan NSW, put together a list of questions to send to political parties and candidates to help us understand how they rate on issues such as the well-being of animals, caring for our environment and our health and the protection of equal rights. The answers are now in!

The graphic above displays a summary of the responses. Apart from the major parties, only parties whose candidates responded to the survey are listed. Each party's score is the average of all candidates of that party who responded to the survey. We have also provided the full detailed responses for each candidate. The Labor Party provided a response in text form, without answering the survey.

We hope this helps you decide where to place your preferences.

Update: To save space in the above graphic, we removed some of the smaller parties. For completeness, below is a summary of all parties who completed the survey. Independents are not included, but their responses can be seen on our Responses to 2019 federal election candidate survey page.
