In February 2024, Vegan Australia collaborated with aligned groups across Australia to maximise the number of public submissions to the Australian Government's revision of the 'Code of Practice on the Humane Treatment of Wild and Farmed Australian Crocodiles.' While holding firm to our position that crocodiles should never be farmed and killed, we helped others in the vegan community express their views to the committee, with the goal of ending the exploitation of these sentient animals.
In 2021, Farm Transparency Project released footage of the horrifying conditions Australian crocodiles endure in the name of fashion. The photos and videos exposed the inherent cruelty of the industry, and have led to nationwide and global campaigns for fashion houses, designers, and consumers to #dropcroc from their collections. An independent review of the Code was initiated in 2023, and feedback was requested specific to the following questions:
To show our commitment to change, we created a free step-by-step guide for the submission process, to ensure that the committee received the largest possible number of submissions. This campaign represented a collective call to action to make a meaningful impact to the lives of farmed crocodiles. While we support welfare campaigns like this, Vegan Australia advocates for an end to the farming and killing of all animals in Australia.
