Fiona Simson, President of the National Farmers Federation, is inviting you to visit an animal farm. How kind is that! It seems that all you have to do is ask. Why not take her up on the offer? Fiona's email is [email protected] and we suggest you send a copy to the NFF Communications Manager, Laureta Wallace, at [email protected] as well. Just say you are responding to her invitation in a recent article on their website Australian Farmers, where she said "We welcome visitors".
But is this a genuine invitation and will they be honest about what really happens to the one million animals bred, raised and killed in Australia for food every day? Will they show you what the makers of Dominion exposed? Or would they prefer to keep their secrets in the dark and only show cute animals enjoying the sunshine?
So, as well as asking to see what the animal farmers want you to see (cows lolling about in grassy meadows), also ask if you can visit facilities where the following routine practices occur: removal of horns, beaks, genitals, flesh and tails of animals without anaesthetic, calves being taken from their dairy cow mothers soon after birth, sheds crammed with over 10,000 'meat' chickens, 'depopulation' of egg laying chickens, grinding up day-old male chicks, long distance transportation, electrocuting and gassing of pigs and chickens and the many more standard practices that cause immense suffering to farmed animals.
Fiona's invitation was made in the article Tough new penalties for would-be farm invaders on Australian Farmers.
