Vegan Education in Schools: teacher resources

Vegan Australia provides free high-quality resources for high school teachers as part of our Vegan Education in Schools program. Developed by teachers for teachers, we have lesson plans, videos, classroom resources, worksheets, student activities and other teaching aids.

These resources provide teachers with the information and tools they need to deliver lessons that encourage students to think critically about animals and our relationships with them. Ethics of veganism

An introduction to the ethics of veganism and animal rights, covering the core values and motivations behind veganism. Students will critically engage with visual media, challenge misconceptions, and reflect on their role in creating a more just world.

Challenging dairy

An exploration of the true cost of the dairy industry. Students will delve into its ethical implications, its environmental destruction and the health myths it perpetuates. They will uncover the industry's political influence and discover a vegan future where the rights of our fellow animals are respected.

Unmasking the meat industry

This course critically examines how the meat industry violates the rights of animals, contributes to environmental destruction and risks human health.

The truth about the egg industry

A comprehensive exploration of the egg industry, from legal failings and industry propaganda to the violations of the rights of hens and male chicks, environmental destruction and harms to human communities.

Pigs in perspective

This course looks at the realities of pigs caught in the animal agriculture industry. It challenges speciesist assumptions and advocates for an abolitionist vegan future. Students will examine the emotional and social lives of pigs and confront the brutal rights violations of body mutilation, confinement and slaughter.

Seeing cows differently

This lesson series is a thought-provoking examination of the commodification of cows. It reveals their rich emotional lives, the systemic rights violations of the meat and dairy industries, the myths of 'happy cows' and 'humane' farming and the environmental devastation tied to their exploitation.

The exploitation of sheep

An eye-opening lesson series revealing the hidden rights violations of sheep in Australia's wool and meat industries. Through videos, sanctuary stories and ethical discussions, students will confront industry myths, question speciesist norms and explore a future where sheep are seen as individuals, not commodities.

Respecting aquatic animals

This course challenges students to rethink how humans view and treat aquatic animals. From exposing speciesist language like 'seafood' to examining the suffering caused by fishing, bycatch and farming, each lesson highlights that fishes, crustaceans, molluscs and other aquatic beings are sentient individuals with lives of their own.

Idioms that respect the rights of animals

Language shapes our world, especially when we speak about our fellow animals. This full guide unpacks how everyday idioms perpetuate speciesism and offers ethical alternatives. The included lesson plans make it an invaluable resource for educators who want to inspire critical thinking and promote a more empathetic and just worldview in their classrooms.

Australian Curriculum mappings

Each of our vegan education lessons has been carefully mapped to the Australian Curriculum v9.0 across key learning areas including Science, English, Geography, History, Economics and Business, and Civics and Citizenship. This mapping ensures teachers can confidently integrate vegan education into their classrooms while meeting national curriculum requirements. The mapping highlights both direct and extended links, showing where lessons align naturally and where extension activities can deepen understanding and critical thinking.
